Georgia 1% tax
& business setup.

Keep more of what you earn. A 1% tax opportunity for eligible entrepreneurs, 0% on personal crypto gains, with business registration, banking and relocation brought together by PWS Offshore.

The opportunity

Less tax.
More room to grow.

If tax is taking a big bite out of what you earn, Georgia is worth a closer look. If you work for yourself and qualify for what Georgia calls Small Business Status, you pay 1% on your turnover, which simply means the money your business takes in before costs.

  • Keep more of the money your business brings in
  • Sort out your business and your tax in one plan
  • Build a new base for work and life

small-business income tax

Before expenses, VAT, other taxes and compliance costs. This is an illustration, not your total tax bill.

In plain English: the 1% is charged on what you bring in, not on what’s left after costs, and only certain kinds of work qualify. Registering in Georgia doesn’t by itself stop you owing tax back home, so we look at both sides with you first.

The essentials

The numbers at a glance.

The four numbers worth knowing. We handle the detail.

1%

Qualifying revenue

If you’re registered as an Individual Entrepreneur and approved for Small Business Status. It’s charged on what you bring in, not on profit after costs.

0%

Personal crypto gains

If you sell crypto you own personally (not through a company), Georgia doesn’t tax the gain, however big it is.

GEL 500,000

Calendar-year threshold

Bring in more than this in a calendar year and the rate becomes 3% from the start of the month you went over until the year ends, on everything, not just the extra. Go over two years in a row and you can lose the status.

GEL 100,000

Separate VAT test

Once your sales that count for VAT pass this in any rolling 12 months, you generally have to register for VAT. Whether a sale counts depends on where your customer is and what you sell.

Registering your business and applying for the 1% status are two separate steps, and we do both. What you do and where you actually do the work decide whether you qualify, so we check those with you before applying.

Finding your fit

The right route for your business.

If you run your own business, especially online, this was written with you in mind. We check the detail with you before anything is filed.

A promising fit

  • You run the business yourself, your type of work is allowed under the scheme, and your yearly takings stay under the limit.
  • You’re genuinely planning to move to Georgia, not just register there and carry on as before.
  • You’re happy to keep records, file returns, and look at how your current country will treat you.

Other routes we compare

  • A limited company (LLC), if you want your personal assets kept separate from the business, have partners, or have high running costs.
  • Virtual Zone status and other company schemes, aimed at tech businesses selling abroad.
  • Banking, residency and family arrangements that go alongside your tax position.

Everyone’s situation is different, so we compare the options and recommend the one that actually suits you. If the 1% scheme isn’t the best answer, we’ll say so and show you what is.

Residence & relocation

Make the move work on both sides.

There are three separate questions here: can you stay in Georgia, can you work there, and does Georgia count you as tax resident (meaning it’s the country that taxes you)? Whether you can enter without a visa depends on your passport and the current rules, so we check exactly what your plan needs and prepare it with you.

The usual test: you become Georgian tax resident if you spend 183 days or more in Georgia in any 12 calendar months in a row that end in the tax year, counted under the official rules. In plain terms, roughly half the year. There’s also a separate route for wealthier people, and we’ll tell you whether you fit it.

We also look at the country you’re leaving. Its own residence test, income you still earn there, where your company is run from, any tax charged when you leave, and the tax agreement between the two countries can all matter. If both countries say you’re resident, we sort that out properly rather than relying on a certificate.

Crypto

Your crypto gains.
Yours.

Georgia is one of the few countries where you can sell crypto as a private person and owe nothing locally. That isn’t a sales line. It comes from how Georgia decides where income comes from, and it’s one of the main reasons crypto holders come to us about Georgia.

PERSONAL CRYPTO GAINS

0%

Sell GEL 1,000,000 of BitcoinGEL 0 tax
Swap BTC into ETHGEL 0 tax
Hold through a bull runGEL 0 tax

The position comes from Public Ruling No. 201 of the Minister of Finance, issued 28 June 2019 and still in force. Personal holdings, sold personally.

No cap on the gain

What matters is where the gain comes from, not how big it is. Selling for millions and making a small trade are treated the same way.

Sell, swap or cash out

Swapping one coin for another, or selling for cash, doesn’t trigger Georgian tax, so you can move between coins and cash out without a local bill.

No VAT on crypto

Buying, selling and swapping crypto isn’t subject to Georgian VAT (sales tax), so there’s no extra tax on top when you move in and out.

Usually nothing to file

If you’re just buying and selling for yourself, you generally don’t need to file a Georgian tax return. We confirm what does need filing, and keep the records a bank or buyer will ask for.

And the parts we get right

Getting paid in crypto, mining, staking rewards, trading as a business, and crypto owned by a company are each taxed differently, and several still work well in Georgia. We go through everything you hold and earn before anything is filed, and keep your other country’s rules in view the whole way.

Banking & off-ramps

Georgian banks decide for themselves who they take on, including people who don’t live there yet. They’ll ask about your business, your customers, where you live, where your money came from and what the account is for, so we prepare those answers with you.

If your money came from crypto, keep your exchange statements, transaction records and anything that shows the coins were yours. We prepare the application and deal with follow-up questions, so your case is as strong as it can be.

Crypto & digital assets

A supervised place to keep it

Crypto businesses in Georgia (exchanges, custodians and the like) are registered with and supervised by the National Bank of Georgia, so there are clear rules. That helps when a bank, a buyer or a tax office asks where your crypto is held.

We line up custody, wallet records and reporting so the paper trail matches the position we have filed for you.

Georgia questions

Before you make the move.

Who qualifies for Georgia's 1% tax regime?

It’s for people running their own business who register as an Individual Entrepreneur (Georgia’s version of a sole trader) and get Small Business Status. It suits people who do the work themselves and whose yearly takings stay under the limit. We check that your type of work and where your income comes from qualify before anything is filed. Companies use different schemes, which we cover too.

Is Georgia's 1% tax on turnover or profit?

Turnover. It’s generally worked out on the qualifying money your business earns in Georgia, before expenses, not on profit. The GEL 500,000 calendar-year limit and the separate VAT rules matter. Having customers abroad doesn’t on its own make the income foreign: if you do the work in Georgia, it generally counts as Georgian income.

What happens above GEL 500,000?

The rate becomes 3% from the start of the month you went over until the end of that calendar year, on everything you bring in, not just the extra. Go over in two calendar years in a row and you can lose Small Business Status. Some types of work have their own rules.

Do I need to live in Georgia to register a business?

Registering a business, being allowed to live or work in Georgia, and being tax resident there are three different things. Registering alone doesn’t make you Georgian tax resident or stop you owing tax back home. We look at the work you’ll do, how much time you’ll spend there, your visa position and your home country’s rules before recommending a setup.

How does Georgia's 183-day tax residence rule work?

The usual test is at least 183 days in Georgia in any 12 calendar months in a row ending in the tax year, counted under the official rules: roughly half the year. A separate route for wealthier people has extra conditions. Your home country may still say you’re resident there too; when that happens, the tax agreement between the two countries decides, and we check it.

Is cryptocurrency taxed in Georgia?

Not if you’re a private person selling crypto you own yourself. Georgian income tax doesn’t apply to that sale, so the rate is effectively 0%, however big the gain. This comes from Public Ruling No. 201 of the Minister of Finance, issued 28 June 2019 and still in force. Crypto you’re paid for work, mining, staking rewards, trading as a business, and crypto owned by a company follow different rules, which we go through with you.

Can I move to Georgia for my crypto?

Yes, and it’s one of the most common reasons people come to us. The 0% applies to you as a person, so it goes hand in hand with a plan to spend 183 days there and a local bank account. We handle residence, registration, banking and the records a bank or buyer will ask for as one setup, and keep your other country’s rules in view.

Can you guarantee a Georgian bank account?

No. Banks make their own decisions and may ask for proof of what your business does, where you live, where your money came from and what the account is for. We help prepare the application and the paperwork, including records for money that came from crypto, but nobody can promise approval.
